Escape to the West Coast with us, where we pop in on an emerging band from the San Diego and Los Angeles scene. Meet Garden Echo, a group of three 20-somethings making tunes and playing shows, all while slaying the Instagram game.

  1. For soon to be fans, how would you describe your sound?

Dreamy, atmospheric pop with a dark side. Romanticism without the romance.

  1. Some music is great for the shower, while other songs are perfect for working out. What should people do while listening to your music?

Our music is good for doing introspective, chill things, like laying down or looking out windows. Night driving has been recommended on several occasions.

  1. How would you describe your band’s fashion aesthetic? [link]

We’re all into the monochromatic, minimalist look, usually with a street style, sporty vibe to it. Seems very trendy at the moment but as slightly nervous, anxious people we tend to wear things that make us feel most comfortable and natural when performing. Hence the sneakers, tees, and sweatshirts. We somehow manage to stay away from anything that has any semblance of sex appeal. To us buying a nice sweatshirt or new sneakers is dressing up.

  1. What artists are you guys excited about?

Andrew: Daughter, Low

Alexia: The Boxer Rebellion, Houses, Daughter

Sara: Low, T.O.L.D, Sundara Karma

  1. Any guilty pleasure artists?

Andrew & Sara: Miley. Except we don’t feel guilty about it.

Alexia: Enya, Jimmy Eat World

  1. How did you meet and decide to play in a band together?

Sara: Alexia and I met at a church group when we were teens. We reconnected when I finished school in LA and moved back to San Diego. We had all been a part of musical projects that we weren’t feeling fulfilled by and after years of bad timing and being shy about it we decided to give it a shot and started experimenting and writing. We knew we wanted to have a bigger sound than we were capable of at the time so we enlisted our friend Andrew, who was known for his really emotive guitar style. We started meeting in my garage weekly and the rest is history.

  1. What’s in the works for you guys?

We’re currently working on our next EP, due out sometime in the near future, and putting together a lot of shows. Very excited about this year
